Pasta di Gragnano
The production of artisanal Pasta – the white art – that made it famous in the world dates back to the end of the 16th century, with the appearance of the first family-run pasta factories.
However, the inhabitants of Gragnano had always been familiar with working wheat and making it an economic activity: it is no coincidence that Gragnano owes its name to a “praedium graniium”, an agricultural fund in which the gens Grania, of Roman origin, was dedicated to processing of wheat and the production of bread, and where subsequently some rioters took refuge giving life to an urban center – “Granianum” – breaking away from the ancient city of Stabia.
A long history, that of Pasta di Gragnano, which still preserves the flavor of a centenary experience intact today.
